Truly Feel into the Richness of This Moment

I know being in the moment can be incredibly hard. We are surrounded by a constant, buzzing static of busyness. There’s the work, the kids, the nagging fears about the future, and the weight of everything going on in the world. It is so easy to get absorbed by the “next” thing that we completely forget to inhabit the “now.”
But here is a secret: Joy only lives in the present.
It sounds simple, but it’s a truth most of us spend our lives running away from. Joy doesn’t live in your next raise at work. It doesn’t live in the new house, the move to a new city, or the day you finally retire.
If we wait for the “big” milestones to feel happy, we spend most of our lives in a waiting room.
And for leaders, this becomes even more subtle. We are rewarded for forward motion. For anticipating. For pushing ahead. But rarely for stopping and actually experiencing where we are.
True magic is found in the “in-between” spaces.
It’s in:
• the trees blossoming outside your window
• the unexpected smile of a stranger
• the quiet pride you feel for everything you’ve already overcome
• the steam rising from your morning coffee
• the small pause between two demanding decisions.
Whether it’s as small as a breath or as big as a career breakthrough, the richness is only accessible if you are actually there to witness it.
Why is this so hard for leaders?
Our brains are biologically wired for survival, which means they are constantly scanning the horizon for the next threat or the next opportunity. We are trained to live in the “future tense.”
And over time, this creates familiar patterns:
• moving from one task to the next without fully closing the previous one
• being in conversations while mentally somewhere else
• reaching milestones without fully feeling them
• telling ourselves “I’ll slow down later”.
This is not a lack of capability.
It is a lack of presence.
However, when we choose to focus on what we are grateful for right now, even in the middle of a hard phase, our brain chemistry begins to shift.
When you intentionally notice small things, your brain starts to filter for more of them.
It moves:
• from scarcity (what is missing)
• to abundance (what is present).
This is the key to breaking the feeling of being stuck.
You are not changing your circumstances.
You are changing the lens through which you experience them.
I don’t need to get through this busy season to be happy. I can be happy now.
I once spoke with a leader who had reached the absolute pinnacle of his career.
He had the title. The house. The influence.
And yet, he admitted that he felt “hollow.”
He had spent twenty years sprinting toward a finish line, only to realize he had forgotten to look at the scenery along the way.
He was a master of the future, but a stranger to his own now.
We started with something incredibly small: Grateful noticing.
Not the big, abstract kind of gratitude.
But the tiny, granular things:
• the way the light hit his desk in the morning
• the taste of a good meal
• the feeling of being fully present in one conversation
• a moment without checking his phone.
By choosing to feel into the richness of these moments, his internal experience started to shift.
Nothing external changed.
But everything felt different.
He realized that joy is not a destination.
It is a practice.
Are you ready to step more into the present?
You can start right now.
Notice what you are feeling grateful for in this exact moment of your life.
Even if it is a difficult phase.
Especially if it is a difficult phase.
Because when you begin to notice:
• your perspective shifts
• your energy stabilizes
• your attention sharpens
• your leadership becomes more grounded
Presence is a leadership superpower.
It allows you to lead not only with your mind, but with your full awareness.
The richness is already there.
You just have to show up for it.
If you are ready to stop sprinting and start living, exploring your Inner Leadership is the first step.
Presence is not a luxury. It is the foundation of how you lead and experience your life.
