The Beginning of Your Transformation
The Art of Remembering Who You Are

There is a common misconception that transformation is about “fixing” yourself, adding new layers, learning new tricks or becoming someone entirely different.
But in the world of high-level leadership, true transformation is actually a process of subtraction.
It isn’t about becoming someone new. It’s about remembering who you are.
Authentic leadership doesn’t start with a title, a prestigious role, or a hard-won promotion. It begins the very moment you decide to come home to yourself, to your truth, your voice and your own unique light.
And yet, this is where many leaders hesitate. Because remembering who you are requires something that performance never asks of you: honest observation.
Imagine for a moment that there is a backpack inside you.
Throughout your life and your career, you’ve been collecting things. Some of these things lift you higher, while others have started to weigh you down.
Inside this backpack are your Tools: the experiences, your qualities and natural strengths that connect you to your authentic self. These tools help you express your power, focus on the work you love and act from your deepest values.
They are the essence of who you are when you lead from the inside out.
And then, there are the Rocks. These are the heavy things you’ve picked up along the way:
- a previous boss who made you doubt your worth
- a reorganization that left you feeling invisible or unseen
- the quiet, exhausting belief that you must be perfect to be valued.
If you pause, you might recognize some of these.
They show up as:
- hesitation before speaking
- over-preparation beyond what is needed
- a constant need to prove yourself
- difficulty trusting your own voice.
These rocks tell stories of fear, pressure, and survival.
And it is important to recognize that these rocks once had a purpose. They protected you when you needed safety, helped you endure tough seasons, and built your resilience.
But as you move into higher levels of leadership, they often become the very things holding you back from your next flight.
True leadership begins when you start to notice the weight of what you’re carrying.
It’s the shift from “carrying it all” to “choosing what fits.”
This is not about judging your past. It is about:
- honoring the lessons
- recognizing what served you
- allowing yourself to release what no longer does
This is how you begin to lead lighter.
This is how you reconnect with your essence—your wings, your light, and your voice.
I’ve achieved so much, and I’m ready to release the weight I no longer need to carry.
I often work with leaders who are “successful but heavy”.
One executive I coached was a master of the “Survival Rock”:
- he was always prepared for the worst
- always defensive
- always armored.
It had helped him survive a cut-throat industry for a decade.
But as the leader of a new, purpose-driven company, that same “rock” was crushing his team’s creativity and limiting the culture he wanted to build.
Through the WNGSway™ process, he realized he didn’t need that armor anymore. He honored the resilience it had given him, but he chose to put it down. The moment he did, something shifted and his leadership transformed. He stopped leading from a place of protection and started leading from a place of connection. He didn’t become a different man; he became the man he was always meant to be and his team responded immediately. Trust increased, energy changed and ideas flowed.
When you put down the rocks, you begin to feel something different:
- not effort
- not pressure
a clearer sense of direction. You start to feel the winds that gently guide your flight:
- purpose
- courage
- truth.
These are the roots of the WNGSway™ philosophy at Renaissance.
It is not a method to become more.
It is a path to return.
To return to:
- your purpose
- your light
- your unique contribution.
And from that place, leadership becomes clearer, lighter, and more impactful.
The world does not need more perfect leaders.
It needs leaders who are real.
This is your beginning.
If you feel ready to explore what is in your “backpack”, to lead lighter and rediscover your wings, this is the moment to start.
Transformation is not about adding more. It is about removing what is no longer yours to carry.
